Volunteer Opportunities

Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service relies heavily on the caring and commitment of volunteers to assist us in providing hope and safety to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Three times a year, we facilitate Advocacy Training for women interested in learning more about abuse and how to provide direct support to victims. This is a 43-hour training which covers the following topics:

  • Our Services
  • Oppression
  • Anti-Racism
  • Domestic Violence
  • Sexual Assault
  • Issues affecting children & teenagers
  • Impact of Domestic Violence on elder women and women with disabilities
  • Drug/Alcohol/Violence connections
  • Coping Strategies/Behaviors
  • Vicarious/Secondary Trauma
  • Suicide
  • Hotline techniques
Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and one Saturday over 5 weeks. (20-hour Weekend trainings are occasionally offered as well.) If you are interested in becoming an Advocate, please call the Volunteer Coordinator at (503) 378-1572 or email Volunteer@mvwcs.com

. . . working with battered women has changed me for the better. It has helped me to have a bigger heart and reach out to people more

I fell like I Have a place here . . . speaking out, working to bring people together.

You use all the wisdom you can possibly use . . . maybe you’re just helping the caller take a tiny step in the right direction.

Where else can you volunteer from your house, in your pajamas, while gardening or doing housework?
